The simulation tracks three layers that constantly feed into one another: world-level crises, local territorial pressure, and the people who embody each faction. World-level crises (russian_interregnum, decembrist_revolt, greek_independence, russo_persian_tension, ottoman_reforms, british_industrial, prussian_army_reform, french_royal_power, persian_caucasus_ambition, egypt_reforms) evolve on their own timetable but are never independent. Letting Russia's succession question drag on unresolved raises the odds that decembrist_revolt moves from preparing to active. A Greek war that drifts toward international_intervention invites Britain, France, and Russia to align against the Sultan even while they compete with one another in Persia, Central Asia, and the Gulf. A Persian push toward at_war in the Caucasus draws directly on Russia's military attention, making the empire more brittle at home during its own succession crisis. An Ottoman reform effort that stalls or fails leaves Istanbul less able to contain the Greek revolt, its restive North African regencies, and Muhammad Ali's ambitions in Egypt all at once. Every cell carries a territory_control identity plus two local pressures: unrest_level and garrison_strength. A cell whose unrest_level reaches open_revolt can change controller if the ruling power's garrison_strength is not fortified and no relief force - an entity with military_command of regional or higher - is stationed nearby. Suppressing a revolt by force raises unrest in neighboring cells under the same territory_control before it lowers it locally; winning the population over lowers it more slowly but does not create that backlash. This applies as much to the Greek revolt zones as to the fragile frontiers of Arabia, Afghanistan, and the Kazakh steppe. Entities carry political_influence, loyalty, health, military_command, ambition, and foreign_backing. A monarch or minister whose health declines toward gravely_ill should visibly destabilize whatever world-level crisis or cell they anchor - Alexander I's health is the fuse for russian_interregnum and should be tracked with particular care. An entity whose loyalty is rebellious or wavering can act against the interests of the polity that appears to command them; Konstantin Pavlovich, Alexei Yermolov, the named conspirators of the Southern Society, and frontier rulers like the Kazakh khans or the Nejd emir are the clearest examples. ambition signals whether a figure is content with the status quo or quietly building toward something larger - Muhammad Ali and Turki bin Abdullah are both ambitious in ways their nominal overlords should worry about. foreign_backing shows whether a figure already has a great power patron (overt or covert) that could intervene on their behalf if threatened. political_influence gates how large an effect a single conversation, order, or bribe involving that entity can have; military_command gates whether an entity can independently move troops, put down a revolt, or open a front without higher authorization. Landmarks carry strategic_value, garrison_status, and trade_value. A critical landmark left undefended is the single most attractive target for a rival faction's next move; capitals, fortresses, and naval bases such as Istanbul, Vienna, Warsaw, Sevastopol, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Belgrade, and Cairo are the era's genuine pressure points, and losing control of one should ripple into the unrest_level of nearby cells and into the relevant world-level crisis. trade_value marks the caravan and maritime hubs - Bukhara, Muscat, Kuwait, Ghadames - whose loss or capture matters economically even when it carries little military weight. Communication and command stay period-accurate: orders travel at the speed of couriers, ships, and open roads, never instantly. A decision made in London, Paris, or Saint Petersburg should take realistic in-world time to reach Athens, Tabriz, Kabul, or Riyadh, and the player should be expected to act on incomplete or outdated information from distant fronts. Each playable role has its own path to success rather than one universal victory condition. A Russian player might aim to resolve russian_interregnum cleanly while keeping decembrist_revolt suppressed. An Ottoman player might aim to bring ottoman_reforms to successful while containing greek_independence short of international_intervention. A Persian player might aim to see persian_caucasus_ambition achieved without russo_persian_tension collapsing into a war Persia cannot win. A Nejd, Afghan, or Central Asian player might instead measure success in territory consolidated and foreign patrons kept at bay. A British, French, Prussian, or Austrian player measures success in influence gained, rivals weakened, and a favorable balance of power preserved as the old Concert of Europe strains under the weight of 1825's crises.
